Vol.182 / Talking About Music on YouTube
Music isn’t just something to listen to or play—it’s something worth talking about.
This month, I want to share three YouTube channels where people talk about music in their own unique way.
First up is “Ongaku ni Yose-te”.
It has about 120,000 subscribers and focuses on classical music.
The host, vocalist Kazuhisa Kurumada, speaks in a calm, gentle style that makes you feel at ease.
Every time you finish watching a video, you feel like you’ve learned something new and enjoyed a bit of an elegant, refined atmosphere.
Next is “Genius Pianist Yukorin”.
It has around 50,000 subscribers and is all about jazz.
Yukorin, who calls himself a “genius jazz pianist,” doesn’t hold back.
With sharp, direct comments, he shakes up the sleepy jazz scene, and his mix of talk and live playing makes for convincing, lively content.
Last is “Mino Music”.
It has about 500,000 subscribers.
Mino also performs under the name “Minotauros,” playing mainly rock but also funk, blues, and more.
In one recent video, he talked about “The Velvet Sundown,” a made-up AI band that reached 1.5 million monthly plays on Spotify.
To me, Kurumada brings knowledge and culture, Yukorin brings challenge and a fighting spirit, and Mino shows the feel of the times and a sense of popularity.
What they all share is their distinctive way of speaking.
Just like handwriting shows a person’s character, how a person talks shows you their priorities.
After all, talking is the first step toward music.
Check them out when you have time!
